BODY SHAPES.  TRIANGLE.  HOW TO DRESS AND FLATTER YOUR BODY SHAPE.

The Triangle body shape, otherwise know as the pear, is focussed very much on the hips and is the most common body shape.  Think Michelle Obama, Kristin Davis, Jennifer Love Hewitt. 

Triangle figures have great hips with narrow shoulders and waist and a small ribcage.  It's a look that's easy to flatter when it comes to dressing the upper body and slim midriff as well as showing curvaceous hips and legs.  So as the saying goes, when it comes to the triangle body shape, if you've got it, flaunt it.

When it comes to dressing this silhouette, you'll want to accentuate shoulders, draw attention to your upper body and waist and elongate the legs.  And of course, showcase that fabulous waist and those curvy hips.  Dressed well, this is a super-star look.  But it can be a challenge.  Finding clothes to fit your waist (which is tiny) and your hips (that bit wider) can be difficult. 

How to dress a Triangle Shape:

  • Balance your proportions. As your hips are wider than your shoulders, emphasis your shoulders and widen them. Subtle shoulder pads can look fantastic but if you're looking for a classic style, don't go full on 1980's shoulders. It's a look that will date.
  • To make legs look longer, a shorter, cropped jacket can look really strong.
  • Kick flare trousers are great for triangle body shapes. They add balance to your overall look.
  • Opt for trousers that are not too tight, so tailored trousers are your best option and avoid trousers that sit on the hips. A higher waist looks strong.
  • Play with pattern when it comes to your top half as this will draw the eye upward. Or colour, a great patterned fabric that catches attention.
