Can I wear Cigarette Trousers?

Cigarette trousers are having a fashion moment. Suiting is one of Autumn Winter's hottest trends and cigarette trousers are a season staple. But who can wear them? The answer is everyone so long as they are exquisitely cut and the perfect fit.

But I can't find the perfect fit?

Fit is key to a successful cigarette trouser. It's a style that sits very close to the body and legs at every point of the lower body. If at any point the cut doesn't fit your body perfectly then the look just doesn't work. Let's face it, we've all experienced the cigarette pant getting stuck on our calves when we stand up or the thigh that's too tight so the fabric strains. Cigarette trousers should drape not cling which is why so many women find such a stylishly simple trouser so difficult to find.

A style staple.

Cigarette trousers were first seen back in the 1950s. The style was made famous by the Queen of gamine charm Audrey Hepburn. Dark cigarette trousers worn high on her waist and ending right on the ankle. It's no surprise that such elegant tailored pieces in a simple colour palette are still in style today. When something works, it just works.

What's great about the cigarette trouser that that it's a look that can carry us from day to dusk, from boardroom to dancefloor. Once you've found that perfect flattering fit they'll be your go to piece time and again.

The Distinctively Me Cigarette Trouser.

Our style is pared back, it's simple and elegant. An invisible side zips keeps the look clean and flattering. The waistband is designed to sit a little higher on the waist, in just the same way Hepburn herself wore the style. Don't worry, we're not calling them high-waisted trousers but they're certainly not hipsters!

Another key element to the perfect cigarette trouser is the quality of the fabric which will give the perfect drape. Because our trousers are made to measure you can choose your fabric and right now we're loving them in a fine wool. Perfect as part of a more tailored look. For a more casual look our suiting has an element of stretch which makes them super comfortable and versatile.

Where should cigarette trousers fall?

Our clients ask the same question; how long should my cigarette trousers be? The answer is up to you! Personally, we love to see them just grazing the ankle. A great look for summer with a ballet flat or pump. But consider on the ankle if you're opting for a more corporate, formal style of trouser.

I'm pear shaped, will cigarette trouser suit me?

Yes, of course they will. Once you get the perfect fit, they'll look amazing.

"I'm five foot two and curvy so trousers are often too tight in the thigh, too loose in the waistband, too long in the leg and generally make me look asthough I've squeezed myself into sausage casing. Discovering...the Distinctively Me brand has brought my quest to an end. Finally, trousers fitted to my shape...The cigarette pants..were beautifully tailored so that they hugged my curveswithout clinging. So flattering and well made."

Can petite women wear cigarette trousers?

Exquisitely-cut cigarette trouser look great when made to fit. On petite women when the proportions are just right they can look stunning. But when buying off the peg cigarette trousers are often too long along the length of the whole leg and taking them up won't solve the problem. The tapered look gets chopped off and the wider fit at the bottom will shorten the leg.

Our made to measure cigarette trousers are made to fit individual proportions so that the shape looks great on every body shape and size. Such a versatile trouser that suits the office or the party we're delighted that the sleek stylish cigarette trouser is smoking hot right now!
