How To Dress For Your Body Type

Every body is different and every body is beautiful, but how you dress for your body shape can make a huge difference to how you feel in yourself and your clothes, giving you the confidence you need to attack the day ahead.

Understanding your body type also means that you’ll find it easier to be more sustainable in your approach to your wardrobe, investing in key pieces and timeless styles that you know you’ll love for years to come, rather thtan hitting a few trends here and there, and hoping for the best.

Here are a few ways to identify which body type you have!

The Pear

If your waist is wider than your bust, you have fuller hips and narrower shoulders in comparison, then you’re likely to be a pear shape.

The Apple

Are your shoulders broader than your hips and your waistline isn’t particularly well defined? Then you’re probably an apple shape.

The Hourglass

If you have a curvy body with a well-defined waist and even bust and hip measurements, you’re likely to be an hourglass shape.

The Athlete

If your waist is straight up and down, with even shoulder and hip measurements, your body type is most likely athletic.

So - now that you’ve worked out your body type, how best to go about dressing it so you can look stylish and be comfortable, all at the same time?

The pears among you always look amazing in jeans and trousers, pairing them with statement tops that help to make your body look longer. 

Just make sure you finish the look off to perfection with some showstopping earrings or necklaces for a touch of drama. In terms of tops, look out for anything with scoop or V-necks, completing the look with a jacket that hits at the mid-thigh mark.

For the apples out there, fitted sleeves can help balance out your bust, while you’re sure to look amazing in anything with a V-neck. For jackets, aim for something that rests at your hip level, while a knee-length coat will always be incredibly flattering. As for dresses and skirts, anything in an A-line shape will really give you that wow factor you’re looking for.

Do you think you have an hourglass figure? If this is the case, anything fitted will really accentuate your silhouette and make you look (and feel) incredible.

If dresses are your thing, the wrap dress is a great option as it will naturally highlight your very best features. You’ll also look amazing in jumpsuits, skinny jeans and leggings, so you’ll have a great time putting your various looks together.

And as for those of you out there with athletic figures, make sure that you strike a good balance between your upper half and your lower half by drawing attention to your legs and curves. To get this balance right, opt for oversized trousers and a form-fitting top, or the other way around - pair some skinny jeans with something oversized on top.
