My vision when I launched Distinctively Me was to build a company that offered a warm, personalised service for every woman - whatever their size, shape or age. I wanted to price our beautiful pieces at a level that was affordable for most women who want to Buy Less, Buy Better.
So recently when I was asked "What is the difference between you and a Savile Row Made to Measure business?" I returned back to my vision. Because the answer, for me, is that Savile Row is seen as ‘exclusive' and I have created a brand that is ‘inclusive'.
I always wanted to create a business where people loved to work, whether they were full time, part time, freelancers or suppliers. A team that had the customer at the heart of everything we do - creating beautifully made clothes and delivering an experience where our customers would feel at ease and love coming to see us. This is still the driving force behind everything that I do and I'm proud to say that I have a team of wonderful people who share the Distinctively Me brand values.
My approach to made to measure is to create clothes that are unique to our customers. The perfect fit, the perfect colour, the perfect style, and the perfect fabric are at the heart of everything we do.
And because I want our collections to be timeless, I have previously steered away from patterns, but I have always wanted to launch unique designs on silk for my customers. Each new print design will be produced in limited quantity and for a limited time so that it would feel special.
Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping people fulfill their potential. In my previous roles I have introduced many graduates into the corporate workspace, so it was only natural for me to look for young designers starting out in their career to collaborate with.
Nottingham Trent University has one of the most highly respected courses in Textile design in the UK, and having studied at Nottingham University myself, I felt compelled to contact graduates from this college.
2020 has been a tough year for us all, and graduates are really struggling to find jobs, so it has been delightful to be able to offer Chloe the opportunity to produce a range of silk designs for Distinctively Me over the next year.
Chloe graduated from Nottingham Trent University this year with a First Class Honours degree in Textile Design, specialising in Printed Textiles. Her personal love for florals and photography have driven her most recent work, and she loves to connect with her surroundings to gather inspiration.
Chloe has a passion for longevity and emotional durability and this has heavily influenced her collections. She understands that by designing timeless, bespoke and unique designs, there is an emotional attachment to the garment, which leads to these key pieces having a place in a wardrobe for a long time.
We are excited to work Chloe as we have very similar views on design. We both want to create pieces that are loved and cherished.
As Chloe tells us "Fast fashion is something that I feel very strongly against and it is important that upcoming designers strive to make a change within this industry. This is why I feel so excited about this collaboration with Distinctively Me, their values align with my own philosophy on sustainability within the fashion industry."
We started working together in August of this year and it has been amazing co-creating our first design for Autumn 2020. Seeing the design develop from the image to the printed silk has been totally fulfilling.
We wanted this colourway to reflect the season we are in with rich orange and red hues mirroring the beautiful colours of the trees at this time of year. The design is now available and it looks amazing in our collarless blouse.
This design would also look amazing in our fit and flare dress design. It would look fabulous dressed down with biker boots and a leather jacket during the cooler months, but equally good teamed with white pumps and a little cardigan for Spring. The beautiful floral design would look super stylish for a summer event with a pair of heels and an eye-catching hat. We teamed it with a selection of our made to measure jackets and the design really does add a fresh new look to classic styles.
Buy Less, Buy Better is at the heart of everything we do.
Chloe and I are now working on our next design, which will be available just before Christmas. The new design is an abstract pattern in beautiful indigo, violet, purples and blues.
This soon-to-be-launched design will look fantastic made to order in the blouse and dress but also in our wide leg palazzo trouser.
We hope that you are as excited as we are with the new designs, and I am sure you will see more of Chloe as she develops her career.
So if you'd love a unique design while supporting a young, up and coming designer, then book in for a free online consultation.
And don't forget, our Silk in Box gift would make a fabulous Christmas present when we all feel like we need something special in our lives.
