When it comes to classic Hollywood glamour, few did it better than the women over the age 50 who graced the Oscars red carpet this week. Simple silhouettes, classic styles and graceful gowns are where Red Carpet Fashion is at right now, with even the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie opting for simplicity. And this tilt in trends is great news for women of a certain age who seem to have the advantage. Just look at Jane Fonda. Opting for a simple Balmain gown, it's impossible to believe that she's 80 years of age.
And then there were the real winners on the night. Frances Mcdormand and Allison Janney, who both took home Oscars for outstanding work, not only looked amazing but they are women who are coming into their own a little later in life. Mcdormand is 60, Janney is 58. Two women achieving such greatness at an age that not that long ago was considered over the hill.
It seems like women over 50 are no longer invisible but showing the world what they are capable of and it's not just the stuff of Hollywood dreams. Back in the 'real' world, the over-50s account for 43% of those starting their businesses and I'm no exception.
I founded Distinctively Me in my 50s and it has given me back a passion and excitement in my life which I realised I was starting to lose. It's even better that I have designed the range of made to measure pieces to flatter women's bodies even as they age and are timelessly elegant.
So it was great to feature in the Daily Mail Femail section showing that age is no barrier!
